On my way back home to Hawaii from Southeast Asia, I stopped in Sydney to visit a good friend of mine who was born and raised there. She showed me the absolute best parts of the city, and here were some of my favorites that I recommend visiting!
1. Bondi Icebergs
A major landmark of Sydney, and really Australia in general, are the Bondi Icebergs. It’s basically two salt-water pools that feature waves from the ocean next-door, splashing into the pool every couple of minutes. You can go inside the pools for only about a $6.50 entrance fee, and enjoy the unique views!
2. Bondi Beach
Next-door to the Icebergs is beautiful Bondi Beach. Constantly filled with tourists and local Aussies alike, it’s one of Australia’s most iconic and most visited beaches. There’s great waves here for surfing, a nice enough reef for snorkeling, and a big boardwalk for bike riding, skateboarding, or a leisurely stroll.
3. Sydney Opera House
No trip to Sydney is complete without a visit to the country’s most recognizable and iconic landmark. The Sydney Opera house sits on Sydney Harbor, adjacent to Sydney’s Central Business District and easily accessible by metro from anywhere in the city. The structure itself, along with the food, music, drinks, and people surrounding it make the atmosphere a brilliant experience on any Sydney itinerary.
4. Campbell Parade
Last on my list of must-dos on a short trip to Sydney is exploring the hip Campbell Parade neighborhood in Bondi. I’ve never seen such a high concentration of trendy restaurants, modern clothing stores, and gorgeous young Australian humans in such a small place. Perfect place to sit down and people watch.
3 days later, I had a fantastic time exploring a bit of what Sydney has to offer, and really can’t wait to go back and see more of the country one day soon. If you’re thinking about visiting, I definitely recommend locating yourself in Bondi with its plentiful sights and things to do – and making your way into the city center to see Sydney’s other highlights (like the Harbor Bridge and the Opera House) as a day trip.
